A big thank you to the 5765 voters who supported Measure H! We knew if would be difficult to obtain the two-thirds vote required, and we came very close! Veterans of bond campaigns say it usually takes two or three times to get a bond passed by 66.6 percent of the voters. At 64.0 percent, we were less than 3 points short.
We feel good about the many people who understand that Burlingame’s flood control problems are not going away, and that there is no other way to fix them than to go to the voters. We will build on that understanding in the future.
It is always difficult to convince people to tax themselves and infrastructure is not a sexy topic, but a remarkably high number of people in Burlingame understand the importance of taking good care of the underpinnings of Burlingame. It makes sense economically to fix problems before they become catastrophic, and it helps everyone’s property appreciate in value.
As people drive down flooded streets in Burlingame this winter, they will once again see city workers working in the rain, desperately trying to stop the water from damaging property and mixing with sewage that then runs into the bay. We hope these observers will vow to work with us next time to come up with a plan for taking care of our flooding problems.
Sincerely,
Committee to Fix Our Flooding
If your roof leaked, you would fix it, wouldn’t you? That’s why many Burlingame property owners are supporting Measure H.
